The Chicago Bears held a commanding 13-0 lead but saw that lead evaporate in the fourth quarter and lost 17-16 to the Jacksonville Jaguars last Sunday. Brian Hoyer did complete 30 passes for a total of 302 yards but he did not throw a touchdown. The 31-year old quarterback has played well since taking over for Cutler, throwing for more than 300 yards in four straight games, racking up 1392 yards with a terrific 6:0 TD to INT ratio. Cameron Meredith had a huge game for the second straight week, making 11 grabs for 113 yards, and has now caught for 295 yards in four games. Meredith is seeing more action due to the injury to Kevin White who could be out for the season. The Bears continue to play without Jeremy Langford, with Ka’Deem Carey and Jordan Howard splitting the duties, combining for 84 yards last week. Langford is dealing with a high ankle sprain and will not play in this matchup. Overall it was another disappointing performance from the Bears offense which is now averaging an NFL low 16.8 points per game.
The Bears defensive stats from last Sunday might look good on paper, but blowing a 13 point fourth quarter lead at home against Jacksonville is unacceptable. Chicago did shut down the Jaguars weak running game, conceding only 54 yards, but could not come come up with any big plays in the fourth quarter. Chicago is now conceding an average of 23.8 points per game, ranking them 19th in the NFL.
